Depression - The A to Z of Hypnotherapy
Depression is the predominant mental health problem and the second leading cause of years lived with a disability worldwide.
Symptoms include deep sadness and pessimism, loss of interest in things once pleasurable, trouble sleeping, eating more or loss of appetite, intrusive thoughts and lots more.
When we are depressed, we have a lack of Serotonin, the body’s natural happiness hormone. Here are 3 things that you can do to help your body produce more serotonin.
Have more positive interactions. Reconnect with positive friends and invite them over for a coffee and a catch up. I know that being social may seem like the last thing on your mind if you are depressed but believe me it will help lift your mood if you do it on your terms.
Try to create more positive thoughts. Try and notice the little things in life that are still good. When we recognise these, it gives a shot of serotonin.
Take some small, but positive actions. These don’t have to be conquering the world, it may be something as menial as making your bed but everything that you do that is an achievement for you will help you move closer to a happier life.
As I mentioned, you are not alone. Talk to someone about how you are feeling, it could be a friend, a support group or a therapist. You’ll feel better for it.
