Negativity - A to Z of Hypnotherapy

Everyone is a bit negative sometimes (unless you are American, they seem to be over the top happy all the time) but being negative actually isn’t a bad thing. That might surprise you that a hypnotherapist would say that, but before you judge me, the statement comes with a caveat.

The part of a brain that is generally pessimistic is called our limbic system, or primitive brain as I call it because it hasn’t evolved since the caveman era. Back then the world was a much more dangerous place and each time that you came out of the cave, you’d be faced with danger either from the weather conditions that you would have been ill-equipped to deal with or from attack from wild beasts or other tribes.

It was probably right in those days to be negative and jump to worst-case scenarios because there was a reasonable chance that you would face danger. These days, that part of the brain still thinks the same way, even though, we are much safer as we live our lives in and around Sussex. If you were facing a genuine threat, it would be wise to think of what could go wrong, but the rest of the time, it’s mostly unhelpful to think that way.

Now, the more stressed or tired we are, the more that part of the brain takes over, and the more we’re encouraged to think negatively, and then we find ourselves trapped in a vicious cycle of stress and negativity. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help break this cycle and help you to feel more positive again. Get in touch to find out more and to book your free, no-obligation consultation.
