5 Positive Reasons To Quit Smoking

If you’ve been a smoker for any amount of time, you’ve probably heard all the negative health warnings a million times (Cancer, C.O.P.D, Strokes, Heart Disease, Diabetes to name just a few), but as you already know all of these, this article will focus on the positives of quitting smoking.

Reason 1 - Your Body Can Still Repair Itself!

If you haven’t already been diagnosed with any of the above diseases, there’s every chance that your body can recover from many of the effects of smoking much quicker than you might think;

  • Within 20 minutes of quitting

The functioning of your heart returns to normal. Your capillaries and the vascular network are restored to health. Blood flow improves, and the sensitivity of your feet and fingers increases.

  • Within 12 hours of quitting

The level of carbon monoxide in your blood falls, whilst the level of oxygen increases. The composition of the blood returns to normal.

  • From 2 weeks to 3 months of quitting

The risk of heart attack is reduced. The symptoms of tobacco addiction disappear. Blood circulation in the peripheral vessels improves. Lung tissue is restored and the function of the lungs significantly improves.

  • From 1 to 9 months of quitting

The coughing and wheezing caused by smoking falls, although not immediately — the lungs require some time to get rid of the harmful substances that have accumulated within them.

  • 1 year of quitting

The need for tobacco disappears. The skin takes on a healthy colour and greater flexibility. The risk of ischemic heart disease falls by 50%.

  • 5 years of quitting

Blood circulation is completely restored to normal. The risk of stroke is reduced to a level equal to that of non-smokers. The nervous and immune systems function several times better.

  • 10 years of quitting

The risk of lung cancer is now two times smaller than that of a smoker. The risk of developing intraoral cancer, cancer of the throat, oesophageal cancer, kidney and pancreatic cancer is reduced.

  • 15 years of quitting

The risk of ischemic heart disease and the chances of cancer developing are now exactly the same as for a non-smoker.

Reason 2 - You’ll Save So Much Money.

You’ll know that it costs a fortune to smoke, with the average price of a packet of 20 cigarettes costing £10.91! Let’s assume that you smoke 20 a day, every day for a year, that’s a massive £3,982.15 per year. Multiply that over 10 years (even without including inflation) that’s nearly £40 GRAND. Take a moment to think about if somebody offered you that amount of money to quit smoking. My guess is that, as you have read this far, you’d at the very least be willing to give it a go! Believe it or not, this is actually quite a low estimate as recent government proposals could see the price of one packet rise to £15!

Reason 3 – It’s A LOT Easier Than You Think To Do.

It’s a myth that quitting smoking is hard. Before you click away thinking that this guy is nuts, there is a caveat to that statement. What I should say is, with the right strategy, it’s a myth that quitting smoking is hard.

Scientists agree that the addictive element of smoking is actually only 10% of what why we find it difficult to kick the habit, the rest is in our brain. Hypnotherapy has been used for years to help people quit smoking. It’s a quick and effective way to re-programme the way that your mind thinks about smoking; to make it just something that you used to do, but no longer choose to do. It’s perfectly natural and doesn’t involve drugs or patches or cigarette replacements that still keep you addicted to nicotine.

After just one, two hour session you could leave as a non-smoker and you’ll wonder why you didn’t do this sooner.

Reason 4 – You’ll Feel More Relaxed.

This might sound strange as you have probably told yourself that “Smoking relieves my stress” on more than one occasion. However, scientific studies have shown that peoples’ stress levels actually drop once they quit smoking. This will be because the stress of nicotine withdrawal actually heightens stress levels and it’s also why, once you have had a cigarette, you may feel temporarily less stressed as you’ve just had your nicotine fix and are no longer suffering from craving anxieties (or at least until the craving cycle kicks in again).

As part of your quit smoking hypnotherapy session, you will be given tools to help you stay relaxed, including a free relaxation hypnosis recording.

Reason 5 – You Will Become More Attractive

Surveys have shown that non-smokers are three times more appealing to prospective partners than smokers.

Stopping smoking has been found to reduce facial ageing and put off wrinkles from appearing. Even if smoking has caused you to get these lines on your face, by stopping, you can increase the nutrients that get to your skin and reverse some of the effects of smoking.
