Grinding Teeth (Bruxism) - A to Z of Hypnotherapy
Grinding teeth, or Bruxism It’s to give it it’s medical term affects around 8 to 10% of the population. It is often a response to stress and/or anxiety, and is in many cases a symptom of an underlying issue. In fact, According to The Bruxism Association, around 70% of sleep bruxism cases are stress-related.
Symptoms for, or consequences of the condition include;
Pain and stiffness in the jaw
There are things that you can do to help alleviate the condition such as reducing your evening caffeine intake, as this has been shown to cause you to be more wakeful and therefor more active whilst you sleep and by instilling a relaxing routine in the run up to bedtime.
Above all though, the most important steps to take are ones that lead to a lower sense of stress and anxiety and greater feeling of well being. Things like exercise produce an abundance of feel good chemicals in the body for example, and if you prefer something a little more gentle, perhaps try something like yoga or meditation.
Hypnotherapy can also be helpful for teeth grinding as it helps reduce stress and bring a sense of calmness and therefor get to the heart of what is causing the problem.
